Explore the Aptem Enhance features
Each new feature that is released makes the provider's job easier and more enjoyable, while also increasing the learner's chances of success.
Available now: Faster, more consistent marking
Aptem’s AI-driven marking tool enhances the learner experience by simplifying the submission and evaluation process. It enables tutors to mark learner submissions up to 50% faster, without compromising quality. With KSB criteria mapping and a human-in-the-loop approach, it helps to drive accuracy and efficiency, freeing up tutors’ time and allowing them to focus on personalised guidance that supports learner progress.

Available now: 24/7 access to information
The virtual assistant capitalises on momentum by providing answers whenever learners or tutors need them, regardless of provider bandwidth or availability.
Surfacing AI-generated responses mapped to the apprenticeship standards greatly improves relevancy and accuracy. The virtual assistant reduces administrative burden and helps apprentices take ownership of their learning in a way that suits them.
Available now: Objective progress monitoring
Monitor progress and support development, thanks to Aptem’s new learning tool. Aptem Checkpoint presents a series of questions to learners at relevant points in their apprenticeship, to boost learner confidence and provide an instant snapshot of their comprehension of Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs).
The tool also helps learners to foster a deeper understanding of on-the-job challenges, by allowing them to apply theoretical understanding of the skills and behaviours they’re working towards, via realistic scenarios in the context of their employment and programme of study.

Coming soon: Auto summarisation of reviews
Unlock valuable, learner focused reviews by shifting the focus from notetaking to coaching and feedback. Aptem’s review summarisation tool will eliminate the trade-off between valuable discussion and accurate record-keeping, by automatically documenting key discussion points, themes, feedback and action points as each review conversation progresses.
Review preparation features will pre-populate forms with relevant information from across the Aptem system, saving time and ensuring all parties come to review sessions well informed and ready for meaningful discussions.

Checkpoint – Applied KSB questions
This feature iteration of Checkpoint poses questions about the application of knowledge to skills and behaviours during the learner’s practical period to help provide an accurate and objective reflection of progress against KSBs.
View detailsVirtual assistant: General availability
By leveraging large language models and built-in knowledge of learner context, the assistant give learners the answers they need, regardless of tutor availability or bandwidth.
Virtual assistant and Checkpoint integration
Aptem Enhance features are most effective when combined, producing a powerful multiplier effect. We have integrated our virtual assistant for learners with our progress monitoring tool, Checkpoint, to offer timely AI-driven interactions that engage, support, and stretch learners.
View detailsCheckpoint – Applied KSB questions
Apprentice
We present realistic scenarios in the context of the learner’s employment and programme of study. This will empower apprentices to apply theoretical understanding to the skills and behaviours they are working towards, fostering a deeper understanding of on-the-job challenges. This supports the goal of aligning apprenticeship training and real-world requirements, while also providing tutors with a comprehensive understanding of each learner’s progress.
Marking aid
Apprentice
The first phase of development focuses on efficiently housing information about the submission within Aptem, enabling learners and tutors to easily access it via the Learning Plan. A streamlined process that encourages clarity of expectations and standardised assessment criteria for consistency, fairness and efficiency.
Enhanced reviews – summarisation
Apprentice
The review summarisation eliminates the trade-off between valuable conversations and accurate record-keeping, by automatically generating the key discussion points and themes from each review. As the conversation progresses, crucial feedback and action points will be documented, helping to improve engagement, boost accuracy and shorten feedback loops.
Feedback assistant
Unlock impactful, learner-centred support by shifting the focus from basic routine feedback to meaningful constructive guidance, tailored to each learner’s needs.
Virtual assistant: General availability
Unlike generic chatbots, our virtual assistant is purpose-built for each learner’s apprenticeship programme, so its accuracy in relation to the apprenticeship standard is far higher than that of a standard large language model.
Using this approach gives learners more ownership of their learning journey, maximise learning momentum, and reduce the administrative burden for tutors to respond to repetitive questions.
To help identify areas where learners may need additional support or stretch, tutors can now see the chat history between the virtual assistant and the learner. This has been developed in response to Early Adopter feedback. It can also be used for QA purposes.
Virtual assistant and Checkpoint integration
Aptem has integrated its virtual assistant with the Checkpoint functionality. As a result, after completing a Checkpoint, the virtual assistant will be available to the learner, providing them with the opportunity to delve deeper into the topic. This timely intervention allows learners to enhance their understanding by engaging in targeted conversations right at the moment they are assessing their knowledge.
Marking aid – with intelligent KSB criteria mapping
Apprentice
Expanding on the initial iteration of Aptem’s marking aid, this feature introduces intelligent KSB criteria mapping to assist tutors during the marking process. The tool learns how you mark, every time you mark. With this human-in-the-loop approach, it helps to drive accuracy and efficiency, freeing up tutors’ time and allowing them to focus on personalised guidance that supports learner progress.
Feedback assistant – quality assurance
Achieve significant time savings without compromising feedback quality. By reducing the time taken to provide repetitive feedback, it allows for more personalised guidance that improves learner outcomes.
Marking aid – scalable exercise management
This new feature allows organisations to save time and drive high quality marking across all apprenticeship standards. The ability to deliver this at scale is a significant time saving that gives tutors more time to spend with learners.
Marking aid – quality insights on marking and tutoring
This new feature allows organisations to pinpoint and address any quality issues relating to marking and also to implement improvements in a syllabus or learning materials where learner performance is not as expected across a cohort.
Enhanced reviews – preparation
Apprentice
To support better-informed reviews, this feature will provide a summary of key points, including achievements, outstanding actions and previous review summarise to ensure that both the tutor and the learner can effectively prepare for a structured review.
Enhanced reviews – SMART target setting and tracking
Apprentice
This feature adds more value to reviews by generating specific actions and goals for learners that are measurable and time limited. These goals can be tracked through the system to allow tutors to monitor progress and support where required.
Checkpoint – periodic triggering for RORO learners
Apprentice
The additional flexibility of Checkpoint triggering will allow organisations to use the resource for all learners regardless of their start and end dates, allowing for greater personalisation of the learner journey.
Virtual assistant – personalisation
Apprentice
This development will allow organisations to personalise the style and tone of the virtual assistant based on their teaching practices and brand values. The update will also allow for the addition of supplementary knowledge such as employer practices and proprietary learning materials.
How our customers are benefitting from
Aptem Enhance

It was great to be part of the Aptem Enhance virtual assistant beta trial at Pareto. It was incredible to see first hand how this AI-powered tool transformed the way we support learners. We saw increased learner engagement and improved access to information. AI technology has the potential to revolutionise apprenticeship delivery, and I'm excited about its future. I look forward to continuing my journey with Aptem as an early adopter.
Madeleine Robinson, Head of Operations and Transformation,
Pareto

The Aptem virtual assistant for learners is doing exactly what we’d hoped for. As an example, one of our learners asked it about a work scenario and whether this counted towards Off the Job hours. The virtual assistant correctly confirmed it did not - and gave the reasons. This is brilliant. It not only gave the learner an instant response but saved us a 5-minute phone conversation.
Emily Bowler, Head of MIS, Funding & Compliance,
BMS Progress

Having our learners be part of the virtual assistant beta trial was extremely helpful, as we launched with Aptem around the same time, so they could see the benefits of Aptem and its features. Aptem provided clear guidance at the beginning and during the trial, especially around user engagement and how our learners were utilising the tool.

Checkpoint is a new feature designed to enhance the learning experience and support successful programme completion by a series of AI-generated questions to gauge learner comprehension at appropriate points throughout their apprenticeship.
“The automated process reduces the manual work for coaches, freeing up that administrative burden to let coaches do what they do best and what they love to do, which is work with the learner.” Dom Wilkinson, Operational Partnership Manager, Lifetime Training.
Aptem Enhance virtual assistant beta trial
In July 2024, we launched a beta trial of the Aptem Enhance virtual assistant, partnering with BMS Progress, Hawk Training, and Pareto to support 1,790 learners. The virtual assistant provided instant responses to common queries, reducing tutor workload and improving learner engagement.
“For our learners, the fact that they have the assistant available outside of core working hours is great. They could be thinking about something and try to remember to ask their skills coach on Monday or whenever it might be… having that instant response is so valuable for them.” Madeleine Robinson, Head of Operations and Transformation, Pareto

Pareto - Checkpoint early adopter
Discover how Pareto benefits from the early adopter pilot for the first of Aptem Enhance’s AI-driven features – Checkpoint.
