Aptem’s virtual assistant for learners now available

apprentice using AI driven tools for study
We continue to deliver on our promise to create AI driven tools within Aptem Apprentice. We offer unprecedented opportunities for training providers to provide efficient, high-quality learning experiences.

AI-driven tools can automate high-effort administrative tasks and enable more focused teaching time for tutors. This results in higher quality, more responsive coaching for learners. As a result, learners and their employers will be more engaged in the apprenticeship programme. This increases the likelihood of successful, timely outcomes. You can find out more about our plans here.

  • We started this journey by offering an objective way to measure learning progress through Aptem Checkpoint. This has been iteratively improved over the past six months to include tracking all Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) across all apprenticeship standards.
  • In July 2024, we launched a virtual assistant for learners powered by AI.
  • Every quarter, we launch more value-multiplying features. They cumulatively build on each other to give learners the highest-quality learning experience while enabling providers to deliver efficiently at scale.
Introducing the virtual assistant for learners

Unlike generic chatbots, our virtual assistant is purpose-built for each learner’s apprenticeship programme, so its accuracy in relation to the apprenticeship standard is far higher than that of a standard large language model. It knows its role and continuously improves its responses, providing relevant information without the need for constant re-prompting.

It is conversational by nature. It encourages the learner to delve into the answers and ask further questions. This allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the programme content.

Key benefits for providers
A 24/7 learning experience:

Not all learners work 9-5. Our training provider customers want to remove barriers to learning progression and offer flexibility to fit real lives. The virtual assistant enables learners to get immediate answers in proximity to their learning. They can continue their studies uninterrupted and maintain their momentum.

More time for expert tutoring:

Tutors within our training provider customers consistently ask for more focused and higher-quality teaching time and time to solve complex issues. The virtual assistant can answer frequently asked, high-level questions that clutter a tutor’s inbox. Diverting these questions frees tutors to share their profound expertise and experience with learners.

The Aptem safety net:

AI driven virtual assistant tools are fully integrated into Aptem, so your learners can do everything in one place. Its interactions with your learners are fully logged and auditable. Data leakage risks are minimised through containment within Aptem.

What’s next

Our product developers are exploring a range of next-stage improvements with our customers. This includes offering questions a user is likely to ask based on where they are in their learning journey. For those learners using Checkpoint, serving them information to support questions they have answered incorrectly to address gaps in their learning in a timely way.

Rest assured

As with all our features, we’ve taken the time to ensure that what we release for our customers is tested and refined several times before launching a beta version. And every day, it gets a little bit better with the help of our customers and their learners. They use it, feed back, and rate the responses. The virtual assistant is available across all apprenticeship standards. Within one week of launch, over 1,000 learners are using Aptem’s virtual assistant. Many more will see this benefit in the coming weeks.

The Aptem Enhance roadmap

There is plenty more to come. We promised our customers that we would continually deliver features that make apprenticeships more human and give back valuable teaching time. We’re developing a marking aid to accelerate the time it takes to provide meaningful feedback on submissions. In October, we will send invitations to a webinar to hear more about drop number three!

We’re also exploring review summarisation to outline key discussion points and themes from a review automatically. This will remove the distraction of notetaking during a Review and result in more meaningful conversations.
