Webinar: The latest on Functional Skills – sector analysis and recommendations

Following the announcement from the Department for Education regarding the removal of Functional Skills exit requirements for adult apprentices, we discussed the new rules, shared fresh analysis, and provided guidance for providers from a quality perspective.

In partnership with the Fellowship of Inspection Nominees (FIN), this free webinar featured an in-depth analysis by Aptem – drawing on insights from over 110,000 active learners – which revealed that programmes with a Functional Skills component were 60% more likely to fall behind schedule. While Functional Skills in English and Maths will be removed for adult apprentices, they remain a requirement for 16-18 year olds.

Our expert panel included:

  • Mark Abrahams, Head of Research & Analytics at Aptem, who shared a fresh analysis on the impact for 16-18 year olds.
  • Kerry Boffey offered quality guidance for providers as she explored the evolving landscape.
  • Georgina Burton, Head of Implementation at Aptem, outlined actionable recommendations and showcased how Aptem customers are adapting.
  • Jane Firth, Director of Quality and Compliance at Remit Training, lent her compliance expertise during the discussion of the latest changes to Functional Skills.

This webinar is part of a series of activities designed to support Aptem’s customers and the wider apprenticeship community with recent policy announcements.
